Australian wine growers do better than expected
Manchester News.Net Wednesday 3rd December, 2008
The Wine Grape Growers Association in Australia have said wine production figures have exceeded expectations this year.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics says 1.8 million tonnes of grapes were crushed nationally in the 2007-2008 year; up 30 per cent on the previous year.
A number of growers who were expected to leave their vineyards this year purchased water instead to alleviate drought conditions.
It has been estimated that grape growers paid around AUD$75 million for water.
