RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian giants Flamengo have outlined plans to sign midfielder Andreas Pereira from Manchester United on a permanent deal.
Pereira, who joined Flamengo on a year-long loan last August, is contracted to Manchester United until June 2023, but officials from the Rio de Janeiro club are working behind the scenes to keep the 26-year-old beyond the current agreement.
"Yes, Flamengo will try to sign Andreas permanently at the right time," football director Macros Braz told reporters on Monday. "Whether it will be possible or not, we can't say yet. He is from Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in Europe."
"We have to be calm and careful so that we have the best possible outcome for Flamengo and for the player."
Pereira has made 25 appearances for Flamengo across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
According to Brazilian media reports, Manchester United informed Flamengo they must pay around 20 million euros to turn the loan into a permanent deal.
