Stomach operation sidelines Tottenham coach Conte

02 Feb 2023, 02:06 GMT+10

LONDON, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tottenham coach Antonio Conte is set for a spell on the sidelines after it was revealed that he will undergo surgery to remove his gallbladder on Wednesday.

The club confirmed that Conte, who is 53 years old, had been suffering pain in his abdomen and that he had been advised he needed the operation.

"Following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will be undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder today and will return following a period of recuperation. Everyone at the club wishes him well," said a club statement.

The statement did not say who would replace Conte on a temporary basis, or how long Conte would need to recover before being able to return to coaching duties.

However, it will be virtually impossible for him to be in the dugout for Sunday's Premier League clash at home to Manchester City and his return for the following weekend's visit to Leicester City or the Champions League visit to face AC Milan must also be in doubt.
